Treating male androgenic baldness

I would first like to thank very sincerely for your congratulations and monitoring are you doing the blog. I have to apologize for not having updated in so long. Now I return to resume contact with all my readers, thank you and whose contributions have answered with enthusiasm, offering new themes.

After analyzing the characteristics of this disease, now we address the treatment of male androgenic alopecia, commonly known as common baldness.

Last July, I had the honor of leading a summer course at the University Complutense in El Escorial, under the title "The public response to new aesthetic demands of today's society," included a panel discussion on " The aesthetics of hair "in which qualified experts addressed the medical and surgical treatments for advanced treatment of male pattern baldness.

As was stated then, there are currently two drugs that have shown in international multicenter trials clĂmicos efficacy and tolerance, which has earned them the approval of the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) U.S..

One of them, Minoxidil is applied topically in concentrations ranging from 2 to 5 percent. I recommend using minoxidil 5 percent solution applied in doses of 1 cc twice a day. It is best used for this purpose an eyedropper aimed at the root of the hair (it is more effective than spray). At the beginning of treatment pudede be an acceleration in the rate of hair loss. It is important that the patient knows not to increase its concern at the fact that the initial effect.

Thoroughly wash your hair daily to remove debris from the scalp of medication applied the day before and which constitute an additional difficulty for the absorption of the product in successive applications.

The other drug is finasteride, which is taken orally once a day. Currently sold in 1 milligram tablets. It is generally well tolerated, but a small percentage of cases may appear adverse effects on sexual function (decreased libido, decreased volume of ejaculation or difficulty getting an erection long).

It is very important to note that the results of medical treatments, when obtained, are bound to maintain such treatment. When stopping benefits are lost
obtained, and the patient spends in the span of three to four months, to present the same situation would not have used the treatment.

Within the same course at El Escorial addressed the developments in the surgical treatment, whose paper I was responsible and for which I prepared a review of the evolution of the transplant in the last 50 years. In my presentation I pointed out the significant improvements that have occurred in this technique, in terms of nondetection, amount of hair can be transplanted and patient comfort during and after transplantation.

Presented two videos: one on the follicular microfollicular technique, in which follicular units are obtained by dividing the strip is removed from the donor site, and a novel technique of FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction).

The next day at the clinic where I work, IMEM (Aesthetic Medical Institute of Madrid, former Cabinet Dermatologist and Hair), gave a practical demonstration for physicians on the FUE.
